South Atlanta 38, Westover 27
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Westover holding its own against SA. With a run in the second quarter they cut it to seven and had the ball. They may be outsized and outphysicaled on the inside, but they don’t appear overmatched.
Terrance Noel leads the way Westover in the first half and did a great job of attacking the basket. He was visibly frustrated after not getting some calls driving to the hole late. He has 12 at halftime.
As far as getting SA in foul traobule, that has not been happening. Nicklaus Jacobs has two, but Favors only has one foul. He is just dominating on the inside. He has 16 points and 12 rebounds already. Just unreal what he can do. Some TV guy has been walking around with a huge, white styrofoam hand. I am not sure why exactly, but the Pats might want to try stealing it and using it to defend Favors.
South Atlanta 23, Westover 13, end 1st
Saturday, March 14th, 2009South Atlanta owned Westover’s first team, jumping out to a 13-2 lead. The second team held its own for the last four minutes, though. Greg Green really enjoying himself out there, he was talking a little trash with some of the SA guys and even told them to sit down while he shot three free throws at the end of the quarter.
Class AAA boys state championship game: Westover vs. South Atlanta
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Reminder to everybody showing here to follow the blog, feel free to follow along, but the game is on TV at Georgia Public Broadcast. It is set to tip at approx. 8:55 p.m.
I will be updating the blog with updates at the end of every quarter and more periodically during the fourth quarter. I will also have stats and some analysis at halftime.
Down press row the approximation on the spread on this game is Westover +30. Needless to say, not many people in the know giving the Patriots a chance. They said yesterday they love the underdog role. Be sure, if they can pull off the upset it will rank among the biggest upsets in recent GHSA tourney history. South Atlanta beat Region 1 rival Cairo in Round 2 by 43 points and haven’t lost to team in state all year.
Enjoy the game.
Whitefield Academy 69, Turner County 53, FINAL
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Whitefield shoots 33 of 52 from the free throw line and Turner commits 41 fouls while six players foul out – is that even possible?
Turner loses in the title game for the second straight season. And for the third straight season advance to the Final Four and come away empty-handed. Turner finishes the year 30-2.
Whitefield Academy 47, Turner County 31
Saturday, March 14th, 2009GPB running highlights of last year’s upset defeat against Hancock Central. Turner now has a new nightmare to try to wipe off its brain. For teh record. Turner has 10 fouls against and Whtiefield has four. Spears and Aadrian Jackson have fouled out. Breon Dixon has four. If he goes out, it will be lights out for Turner.
Whitefield Academy 38, Turner County 27, 3:12 3rd quarter
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Turner County 27, Whitefield Academy 27, halftime
Saturday, March 14th, 2009Turner and Whitefield exchange runs in a first half filled with fouls. Both teams ran deep into the double bonus. Kind of concerned at the insane amount of fouls called over the course of the week here in Macon, not letting them play. Though, for tonight’s game, a tightly called contest would swing heavily into the Patriots favor.
Whitefield Academy 13, Turner County 12, end 1st
